Is Stonehenge OVERRATED?! My thoughts ⬇️
One of the most frequent complaints I hear about UK travel is that Stonehenge is overrated. Too small, not as impressive as people expect, out of the way, etc. Well, after visiting England this year, I have to say…I don’t agree at all! However, I DO think a lot of people are planning their visit wrong.
I say that because I don’t think Stonehenge deserves a full day trip, which many tours offer. You only need a short visit, but I think it’s an incredibly cool landmark to see, especially when you take into account the mystery surrounding its purpose and construction.
For that reason, I HIGHLY recommend taking an audio tour to also give that context as you walk around the ruins - you can download the app Stonehenge Audio Tour and headphones are available at the entrance/ticket booth. Knowing the history and context makes the visit all the more fascinating.
Furthermore, I would combine a morning in Stonehenge with another destination in the area. One of my favorite locations is Bath, just a 45 minute drive away! Get a nice lunch, walk around the city, tour old Victorian homes and Jane Austen’s house, then lounge around on the riverbank.
