In fact, here’s some general good advice for travelers to save money and get a more relaxed experience, while simultaneously helping locals: unless it’s prohibitive for whatever reason, visit a country in its “off” season. Visit places that aren’t in the top 5 destination lists. You’ll find lower prices, locals who aren’t burned out by tourism and more amenable to chatting with and helping travelers, and experiences you might not get when most other tourists visit. AND, locals in tourism and service businesses in regions that are underserved get a nice economic boost!
