A long, dimly lit tunnel stretches out into the distance, its walls covered in vibrant graffiti and murals. The curved ceiling of the tunnel is composed of weathered wooden beams, forming a geometric pattern that guides the eye down the vanishing point. Discarded debris and rubble litter the ground, and a single light fixture casts an eerie glow on the immediate surroundings. This abandoned urban space exudes a sense of mystery and decay, yet also showcases the artistic expression of those who have left their mark on its walls.

Photos from the original reason for my campervan trip - my photobooks on Abandoned California, coming out end of 2018. •• These are the Donner Pass Summit Tunnels, abandoned railroad tracks and tunnels in the central California mountains close to Truckee. •• Important tip: you need a flashlight for long stretches of the main tunnel. And you have to scramble up a hillside to get there. But there are really cool photo opportunities, and walking through the cavernous tunnels is an amazing experience. . . . . .
