It’s a shame that many incredible state parks don’t get the visitors and attention that the majestic US National Parks do. This strange looking place is Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve, in #California. What’s the most otherworldly-looking place you’ve visited? Comment below!
••
This saline soda lake has a strange chemical composition, which results in the thick appearance of the water and residue towards the shore. The lake is also famous for its “tufa” (yes, that’s a word), limestone columns that form thanks to underwater springs coming into contact with carbonate-rich lakewater.

Now you can say you’ve learned something today! And go back to Netflix guilt-free. But also, make Mono Lake a stop on your next California road trip.
