The image depicts a young woman standing in front of an ancient stone church in Sofia, Bulgaria. The church, known as the Church of St. George, is a rotunda structure with a distinctive red-tiled domed roof and arched windows. The building dates back to the 4th century, making it the oldest structure in the city. The woman is wearing a black jacket and a red skirt, and she is raising one arm in a celebratory gesture, seemingly appreciating the architectural marvel before her. The background shows a modern ministry building with arched windows, contrasting with the ancient church in the foreground. The scene captures the blend of old and new in the historic city of Sofia.

Welcome to #Sofia! This city has been full of surprises for me. What city have you visited that was totally different from your expectations? Comment below! •• This is the Church of St. George, the oldest building in the city, constructed in the 4th century. It’s in the courtyard of the Ministry of Education. •• For some reason, I had an image that Sofia would be somewhat grey and depressing, full of the many bland cement-block-like buildings common in some former Soviet Bloc cities. However, it is NOTHING like that. •• The center is filled with parks packed with people, beautiful side streets and pedestrianized thoroughfares that make it easy to walk around, and gorgeous historic churches and houses. Also, people play music everywhere on the street. The whole vibe is very laid back and relaxed. . . . . .
