A dimly lit outdoor seating area with a breathtaking nighttime view of the picturesque town of Ermoupoli on the Greek island of Syros. The foreground features a series of white chairs and tables arranged on a stone-paved terrace, overlooking the town across a body of water. The town's houses and buildings cling to the hillside, their warm lights reflecting off the calm waters below. A stone wall stands tall on one side, adding character and a sense of history to the scene. The image exudes a serene and romantic atmosphere, inviting one to linger and savor the enchanting vista of this charming Cycladic village.

Looking out over Ermoupoli at night ❤️ •• Though Syros isn’t as well known to tourists as Mykonos or Paros, it’s main town, Ermoupoli, is actually the capital of the Cyclades. Up until the end of the 19th century, it was a more important port than Piraeus (the major port of Athens). An abandoned enormous shipping yard still remains on the island. •• Thanks to it’s importance as an administrative capital, a university on the island, and other industries, Syros is one of the few islands of the Cyclades that keeps a sizeable wintertime population, with almost 22,000 residents counted on this tiny island. •• Perhaps most importantly to me, it’s the island where my wonderful grandmother grew up and lived for a good portion of her life, and where her sister still lives today. So I’m blessed to visit almost every year. . . . .
