“Nobody of any real culture, for instance, ever talks nowadays about the beauty of sunset. Sunsets are quite old fashioned. To admire them is a distinct sign of provincialism of temperament. Upon the other hand they go on.” ~ Oscar Wilde
••
I often think about how some relatively small, ubiquitous things, as Wilde said, are considered somewhat “basic” to admire or find joy in. Yes, sunsets are everywhere on Instagram, they happen every day outside our window; people will roll their eyes and say “another girl with a sunset photo, woah how original.”
••
And yet I know that the day I fully stop finding joy in the small beautiful things we are gifted, the day I fully fall into the tired sort of cynicism that seems to plague all of us from time to time, is a day I never want to experience.
••
It’s so important to remember to stop, become present, and reconnect with the moment we find ourselves in, the joy that is available to us. It gives us the strength to fight for all the bigger goals of our lives.
