We honestly weren’t planning to shoot the Milky Way and didn’t know ahead of time that it would rise above the temples like this. Originally, we were just waiting for a few stars to come out for a blue hour shot, but @chadtorkelsen had heard that the moon was rising later so we might catch the Milky Way and so we waited a bit longer and indeed we did! I stayed even later, just messing around with shooting the sky, as Chad needed to charge his camera batteries for the morning. Just as the Milky Way was beginning to fade a bit, the moon began to rise, and it just so happened that between the horizon line behind me and the smoke from one of the fires south of us, the moonlight was filtered in just the right way so that the valley was lit up, but the stars were still quite bright... it’s moments like this, that are entirely unplanned and unexpected, that I love most about the outdoors... 🌌
