we woke up around 5am to drive down the 5, then HWY 22 to the Santiam pass and then to this beautiful waterfall. The cold air nipped at us as soon as we stepped out of the car, and it had started to snow lightly. We made our way down to the base of the falls, fortunately the exposed earth had dried so our footing was solid. I walked out on the log, step by step, as it was slick from a coating of ice. It’s the best sort of sensory overload; the roar of the falls up close, the fresh smell of the forest and the feeling of the snow falling all around me. Have you experienced that feeling?
