5 reasons why you don’t need a big following to start earning money as a content creator ⤵
1. Niche audiences are very valuable to brands: “Micro” Influencers ( < 50k followers) are valuable to brands for two reasons. Firstly, because of the personal connection between the influencer and their audience and secondly because a brand can often more effectively target the niche demographic of a micro-influencer that aligns with their brand over a larger influencer.
2. Quality over quantity: How engaged your audience is with your content is more valuable than your total number of followers. If your engagement rate and CTR (click-through rate) are high, and you’re working with brands that genuinely align with your audience, you can provide value to a brand even at a lower follower number.
3. Brands will pay you for more than just social posting: Many brands are looking for UGC (user-generated content) to utilize for their social pages, paid ads, etc. Content licensing can significantly increase your earnings both early on, and as you grow.
4. You can diversify your income streams: Even early on you can develop other streams of income that are related to your niche. This includes creating merchandise or other products that relate to your brand, utilizing affiliate links to earn commissions on products you already use and often talk about with your audience, or teaching a class on something you are skilled in.
5. You’re building a personal brand: This creates the opportunity to launch your own products or services, even early on, and establishes you as a reputable source for a brand to partner with if you approach it in the right way. The quality of your portfolio and the value that you provide your audience is more important than your follower count.
