4 steps to creating a successful shoot for a BRAND! Let’s talk about the value of styling your next commercial shoot.
I recently finished up and sent off a set of photos for a client and I got an exciting response, not only did they LOVE the photos but they also want to discuss working with me on an ongoing basis to create content for them! What was one of the main factors that helped me to land this opportunity? STYLING my shoots!
Pre-production and styling are just as important, if not more important than the photoshoot itself! Here are 4 tips for styling your shoots:
1️⃣ Find inspiration shots and pick a theme for the photos/product you're shooting- a great place to start is Pinterest. It’s also a great idea to ask clients if they have a shot list in mind. Some do, some don’t, but either way, it shows that you’re truly invested in creating the best content for your client.
2️⃣ Once you've got some ideas and a theme for your shoot, pick up some props that help bring the shoot to life - thrift stores are a great place to get your prop collection started! A card game, a picnic basket, or a cheeseboard are all great options to add some depth to the narrative of your shoot!
3️⃣ Set up your shoot ahead of time, give yourself time to adjust and compose shots before the lighting is ideal and you have to get your shots done quickly.
4️⃣ Know how the lighting effects the setting you're shooting in, and the main shots you want to get beforehand if you can. This will make things way less stressful, and decrease the chance of you missing any shots- writing out a rough shot list is great!
Will you use any of these tips when planning your shoots? I hope you found this post helpful, feel free to post a comment below if you have any questions or have a topic you'd like me to cover next... Happy Saturday, and happy creating!
