Jessie on a Journey
A bustling and vibrant street market in Old Delhi, India, known as Chandni Chowk. The narrow alleyway is filled with a dense crowd of people, both locals and visitors, navigating through the maze of stalls and shops. The market is a riot of colors, with strings of vivid orange marigold flowers adorning many of the shop fronts, creating a festive atmosphere. Vendors sell a wide array of goods, from fabrics and spices to wedding dresses, gold, jewelry, and housewares. The aroma of freshly cooked street food wafts through the air, enticing passersby. The scene is chaotic yet captivating, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural tapestry and commercial vibrancy of Old Delhi.

Vibrant Chandni Chowk Market in Old Delhi

It's hard to escape the chaos in Old Delhi, though that shouldn't stop you from exploring Chandni Chowk (near the Old Delhi Railway Station). The market has been open for over 300 years, and sells everything: fabrics, spices, wedding dresses, gold, jewelry, housewares and much much more. My favorite part of the market: the food. I had lunch at Pt. Gaya Prasad Shivcharan, savoring their famous stuffed parathas, a baked then shallow fried layered bread they fill with ingredients like lemon, radish, lentils, potato, carrot and much more! What's your favorite Delhi attraction?
