Jessie on a Journey
A colossal and iconic statue stands tall on a pedestal, overlooking the waters and skyline of New York City. This bronze statue, known as the Statue of Liberty, depicts a robed female figure holding a torch aloft in her right hand, a symbolic representation of enlightenment and liberty. Her left hand clutches a tablet bearing the date of American independence, July 4, 1776. The statue's face is reminiscent of classical Greek sculpture, with a serene and determined expression. Her spiked crown with seven rays represents the seven continents and oceans of the world, unified by the enlightening principles of liberty. The statue's verdant patina, a result of oxidation over time, lends it a distinct, aged appearance that adds to its grandeur and symbolism as a welcoming beacon to millions of immigrants who passed through the nearby Ellis Island. The statue's impressive scale and striking silhouette against the cloudy sky make it an instantly recognizable and awe-inspiring monument, a powerful embodiment of the ideals of freedom and democracy.

The Statue of Liberty: Symbol of Freedom

Officially called "Statue of #Liberty Enlightening the World," the Statue was a gift to #America from #France for their 100th birthday. For the millions of immigrants who entered the country through New York, she also stood as a welcoming symbol of hope. Today, she stands as a symbol of America and its passion for #freedom. As a tour guide I've visited this site many times, and always enjoy it, both for the historical museum/history and the amazing NYC skyline views.
