Jessie on a Journey
A young woman with long blonde hair is standing on the steps of a red brick townhouse, smiling down at the camera. She is wearing a bright yellow ribbed sweater dress that falls above the knee, black opaque tights, and black ankle boots. The dress complements her warm skin tone and brings out the highlights in her hair. Behind her is an ornate black wrought iron fence with intricate designs, and on either side are small bushes adding touches of green. The brick facade of the townhouse has large windows and the scene has an autumn feel, with fallen leaves scattered on the ground. The overall impression is of a fashionable and cheerful young woman in a classic urban setting.

The Reality of Running an Online Business

Achieving your dreams isn't "easier". 🖐️ ___ I meet many people who have a misconception that travel blogging consists of laying on a beach + simply snapping photos for social media. Which makes sense, because that's what you see on Instagram. 🌴  ___ Truth: Building a business, whether a travel blog or something else, is A LOT of work, + the pressure of being in charge falls fully on you. ☝️ ___ Crafting content + products, growing a community, ranking your website in Google, executing launches, setting up funnels + ads, marketing, tech issues. ➡️ This is just a sampling of what's on an online biz owner's plate. ‼️ ___ Sure, you can hire help; but you'll need to decide when that's truly worth it. Honestly, I think it would be "easier" to have a traditional 9-to-5; to have someone telling me what to do and by when; to be in charge of one role instead of the success of an entire business. 🤔  ___ But at the end of the day, I chose "worth it" over "easier". To me, the ability to get as creative as I want, to create content that helps people, to be my own boss, and to have the flexibility to travel and work when I want and where I want makes it worth the effort. ✈️ ___ I've been able to build this life for myself, only because I wasn't disillusioned going into it. I started by taking an online course and building my knowledge. 🌱  ___ From there I created a plan, writing out small goals to help me reach my large goal of quitting my waitressing job and taking my blog full-time. By realizing I had to put in the work to reap the rewards, + to be able to picture each step of my path to success clearly, I was able to reach it within one year. 🌍  ___ Advice: If you're trying to achieve a dream I want you to not only do it, but ENJOY the journey. And when you reach your destination, I want you to crack open a bottle of Champagne (Prosecco counts!) + be HAPPY that while you may not be laying on a beach all day, you have built a life that fulfills you. 😊  ___ *Photo: @indierella_ ___
