Jessie on a Journey
A person with long, wind-blown hair is sitting on a rocky ledge, taking in a breathtaking view of the Judean Desert and the Dead Sea at sunrise. The image captures a serene and tranquil moment, with the individual's back turned to the camera, focusing their gaze on the vast expanse of the landscape. The sun's warm rays paint the sky with hues of orange and pink, casting a soft glow over the rocky terrain and the still waters of the Dead Sea in the distance. The person is wearing a plaid shirt, suggesting a casual and comfortable attire for their early morning excursion.

Sunrise Over Masada

This morning I woke up at 4:15am to watch the sunrise over the Dead Sea and Judean Desert from Masada, an ancient fortification that sits atop a giant rock plateau. It's not just an active and #beautiful experience, but a historical one, as you'll see ruins from the luxurious fortress erected by Herod the Great in 30 BCE. According to my guide, when Roman troops invaded Masada at the end of the First Jewish–Roman War, almost 1,000 Sicarii rebels and Jewish freedom fighters -- those who had been trying to get rid of the Romans from Judea -- killed themselves, as they would have rather commit suicide and be with god than die at the hands of their enemy.
