Jessie on a Journey
A smiling young woman wearing a white zip-up hoodie, blue jeans, and brown boots is standing outside on a sunny day. She is positioned on a metal marker embedded in the ground, with her feet spanning the border between Slovenia and Italy. The marker indicates the towns and countries on each side: 'Nova Gorica' in Slovenia and 'Gorizia' in Italy. Behind her is a paved walkway lined with stones and a metal railing. In the background, parked cars and buildings can be seen, suggesting an urban setting.

Straddling the Slovenia-Italy Border

This photo was taken in Nova Gorica, #Slovenia. In 2004 the Iron Curtain officially fell -- although before then locals could cross the borders, but needed to show a passport. Now, locals in Slovenia and Italy can cross freely. 1947 signifies when the border went up between Italy and #Yugoslavia. In the Square of #Europe, it's possible to take a photo while standing in both Slovenia and #Italy, and even walk right over to Italy to explore both in one day. I'm not usually into touristy photos like this, but thought this was pretty #cool :) Thank you to Vesna of Herbal House in Plave Village for the #history lesson and hospitality!
