Responsible Tourism in Big Cities
People often talk about responsible tourism in reference to rural destinations, but it's important to think about it when visiting big cities, too. Like New York City. 🚕

One NYC attraction in particular that can stand to be discussed through this angle is the Brooklyn Bridge, which is packed to the brim with Instagrammers every single day of the year. And I get it. It's gorgeous, has an incredible history (look up #EmilyWarrenRoebling), and has been featured in tons of movies. In fact, I often take guests there during my @nycphototour excursions. 📸

But as you explore this attraction and take your photos, it's important to remember that this isn't an Instagrammer's playground. It's a route for commuters to get to and from work, by New Yorkers wanting to move between Brooklyn and Manhattan to meet friends and family, and by locals who simply want to enjoy a view over the East River. Yesterday I almost tripped over two girls who were literally laying across the bridge -- SO dangerous, especially as they were also laying across the bike lane. 🚴♀️ ___
Whether you’re visiting New York City or another destination, remember the importance of enjoying without obstructing. It’s an easy way to be a more responsible traveler. 😊
