Lessons from 2020: Finding Fulfillment in the Everyday
"I'VE LOST MY IDENTITY."
😨
That's how I felt when the pandemic first hit, travel halted, and the life I'd built for myself seemed to retreat into the shadows of quarantine.
😔
But, as the saying goes, with every year that passes you get another year wiser -- which means 2020 was like becoming a university professor! 🤣 Because truly, I learned so much, like...
👇
Life can be fulfilling, even when you can't travel.
🎨
Travel isn't the only form of movement 👈 I even started running again after an ~8-year hiatus!
🏃♀️
Nurturing curiosity and seeking everyday adventures can keep the spirit of travel alive at home. 👈 This led to me getting my yoga teacher certification this year!
📚
Also, it's totally okay NOT to move at all, and that stillness -- both the meditative and Netflix & Chill varieties -- has value.
🍿
While trips around the world can certainly enrich your life, it's really your average days that add up to make up your life story, so don't neglect them.
☀️
That I don't need to travel to discover delicious food, because my husband is a pretty stellar chef (thanks for feeding me for the last year, @pierrepilc!).
🍲
Most importantly, I learned that while travel is a huge part of me, my identity isn't tied to my attachment to the road.
❤️
So thanks, 2020, for the university-style education. Hopefully, 2021 won't be such a harsh teacher.
