Empire State Building's Wild History
Crazy NYC history.👇
So you’ve likely heard of New York’s iconic Empire State Building and its amazing views — and maybe even that it was the world’s tallest building from 1931-1970 — but did you know it has some wild history, too? 😮
In fact, it holds the world record for “longest fall survived in a lift” as on a foggy July 28, 1945 a plane accidentally crashed into the building — sending lift operator Betty Lou Oliver plunging 75 stories (over 1,000 feet)! 😳
Thankfully she survived, though sadly 14 others did not. 😔
What is also wild is that July 28th was meant to be Betty’s last day on the job. 😮
NYC’s landmarks are full of interesting history, so as you’re enjoying the modern views, make sure to do some digging into their past lives! 📚
