Capturing Authentic Travel Stories
Storytelling in photos ✨
👇
I just finished uploading a guest workshop on storytelling through photography that the talented Diane Evans of @PhotoFluent_ put together for my Travel Blog Prosperity community.
📸
She shares so many great tips, though one piece of wisdom that really stuck with me is that along with capturing those iconic landmark and sunset shots, our travel stories should include the everyday and unpredictable things that happen on a trip.
✈️
It got me thinking about how nowadays it seems like so many trips are curated specifically to be "Instagrammable" instead of capturing what unfolds and experiencing destinations organically.
🚶♀️
This means your travel story should also include moments that aren't necessarily Instagrammable, but that are interesting, provide insight into a place or culture, or simply spark joy for you.
🌎
This photo is one that comes to mind for me. While doing the Mohare Danda Trek in Nepal, one of the porters, Kim, showed us how to find Yarsagumba, a strange caterpillar fungus.
🐛
If you can believe it, it’s a rare fungus that parasites on the body of a moth caterpillar that lives underground. Horrifically, the fungus kills the caterpillar and then sprouts from its head.
😳
The thing is, it's highly sought-after as it is an aphrodisiac that only grows at high altitudes in Nepal, Bhutan, North-East India, Tibet, and China.
⛰️
While this photo isn't as beautiful as the shots I got of the Annapurna Himalayas, it's still an interesting part of my story from this trip that deserves to be shared.
