Weekend in Capitol Reef National Park
Capitol Reef National Park in a weekend (save this post for later)
Capitol Reef is the lesser know of Utah's "Mighty 5" National Parks. It has many colors on its steep cliffs, canyons, domes, and natural bridges. This park is also far away from, well most everything.
Our weekend itinerary in Capitol Reef:
Day 1
▪️ Panorama Point: Take in the scenery with a panoramic view the valley
▪️ Hickman Bridge: Largest and most popular arch in the park, family friendly hike, 1.8 miles out/back, amazing views of the canyon and honeycombs holes (1📸)
▪️ Scenic Drive: An 8 miles drive full of beautiful views
▪️ Capitol Gorge: 2 miles of dirt road where you feel like an ant as you drive between canyon walls with brilliant color gradients (2📸)
▪️ Capitol Gorge Trail: Easy 2 mile out/back trail with a offshoot to see The Tanks, which are apart of the Waterpocket Fold (3📸)
Day 2
▪️ Cassidy Bridge Hike: Strenuous 3.1 mile out/back hike with steep incline to see Cassidy Bridge (named after the famous Outlaw Butch Cassidy)
▪️ Gifford House: Famous for baked goods made with fruit from the orchards in the park
▪️ Sunset Point and Goosenecks Point: Perfect to take in a sunset (4📸)
We stayed 20 minutes outside the West entrance and loved having quick access to the park. Don't skip over this park because of its location in relation to the other parks.
