Tips for Accidental Snow Camping in an RV

Lessons learned from camping in the snow by accident ❄️⁠ ⁠ Over the past year we have managed to camp during 6 snow storms with temperatures in the teens and low twenties for multiple days at a time. Camping in the snow was not apart of the original plan and our rig is only packaged for 3 weather (snow is not one of them).⁠ ⁠ We have had water lines freeze for over a day, condensation on windows and walls, and used a lot of propane between all the storms. We have learned many lessons along the way and we were comfortable during the snow we had last week. Yes, snow in early September in Colorado 🤯⁠ ⁠ Here are some tips for snow camping in an RV that is not rated for winter:⁠ ❄️ Fill fresh water tank and disconnect all lines including sewer ❄️ Purchase a heated water hose but it only helps if the water connection is insulated too⁠ ❄️ Leave a small crack in a window to help with condensation collecting on windows and walls. Also, remove icicles that build up on the slides as it cause condensation on the interior slide wall.⁠ ❄️ Place small space heater in bathroom to warm it up, ours doesn't have any ducting and it makes for a very cold time in the bathroom ⁠ ❄️ Run propane heater to warm belly and keep water lines warm. An electric heater will save on propane but can lead to bigger issues if pipes freeze in the bottom of the rig.⁠ ❄️ Be prepared with bottled water in case lines do freeze so you can still use the toilet.⁠ ❄️ Invest in some type of skirting for the RV if you plan to do this frequently, there are many options that are permanent or temporary. ⁠ ⁉️Have you camped in snow?
