Mom's Solo Beach Retreat
Several years ago, I was going through a really hard time. Like many moms, I was feeling overwhelmed and unappreciated for all that I do. Motherhood is wonderful, but it can also be quite exhausting taking care of everyone else, leaving very little time to take care of yourself.
I decided I needed a little getawayโฆ by myself. So, I booked a 2 night, 3 day stay at the beach. I wanted the time I spent away to be very intentional, to feel like a retreat, so I could come back feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. I brought a book, a notebook for setting goals, a yoga mat, healthy food, and a few clothes.
I spend my time on the North Carolina coast doing yoga on the beach in the mornings, meditation twice a day, taking 2-3 hour walks near the shoreline, setting goals, praying, eating healthy meals, and relaxing in the evenings with a movie and cozy pajamas.
The last day I was there, after doing my morning yoga, I set up a beach chair near the ocean, brought a cooler of food, sunglasses, and a book. Then I literally sat on the beach the ENTIRE day reading. I read the WHOLE book, cover to cover, in one sitting. It was fantastic!
After this trip I came home refreshed, balanced, and ready to take on all of my mommy responsibilities again. I learned a powerful lesson about taking care of myself, so I can take care of others. This photo of me at the beach, on my solo trip, is a reminder of that๐ Since then, I have continued to take a โmomcationโ once a year. I canโt wait to book one for 2023!
