Confronting Injustice: Taking Action for Societal Change

It’s easy to step to the side and ignore problems in the world. It seems happier that way. As a white male I’ve had it easier than any other group out there. Setting a standard for what you are willing to tolerate on your own door step gives perspective on your own life and those around you. Today I thought about my stance on evil around me and how to some degree we all tolerate injustices in this world, from ourselves and others. It could be as simple as the panhandler asking for change. Do we oblige knowing they may need it it more or keep walking. Do we stand silently while police brutality plagues the minorities of our cities, or do we choose to fight it in anyway we know how. When UNICEF asks for 25 cents to contribute to the genocides of the Rohingya people where the Myanmar Government has been accused of ethnic cleansing, extrajudicial killing & even infanticides of over 1 Million people, do we contribute or keep walking. It is easier to continue on, to ignore the problems and keep to yourself. But, by doing so we are allowing it to continue. We may not be able to fix every issue, there will be more challenges society faces. However, the injustice against minorities has become a mainstream focus and if we ever hope to conquer this we have our best odds right now. Right now is the time to take action. Social Media is a powerful tool and I encourage everyone to use it to create change. However, it is only a tool and without the right people in place to utilize it, a tool will have no impact. We must elect, vote and contact our leaders, representatives & politicians to create a legal framework to ensure we end the violence from our police force and that each person is held accountable for their actions.
